Overview

We will introduce you to the principles of inclusive visual design and will you adopt a point of view that is broader than Section 508 compliance.

Through interactive discussions and collaborative activities, we will cover topics including:

  • Understanding accessibility and inclusivity, including relevant laws and standards
  • The elements of accessible communications: inclusive language and plain language, typography, color, images, and hierarchy
  • Applying the elements to Word documents, PowerPoint slides, and other commonly used communication formats

How You Will Benefit

You will gain an awareness of laws and standards related to accessibility, your role in creating accessible communications, and hands-on experience applying the elements of accessible communication to documents, presentations, and other materials.

Who Should Attend

We welcome any anyone and everyone—with or without previous design experience—to join us for this course. It will be most beneficial for people who do have not formal training in graphic design and routinely create documents, presentations, and other materials.

Additional Information

Online courses use Zoom for audio and screen sharing. You do not need to create an account or download any programs. More information and instructions will be shared prior to the course. Course formerly know as: Introduction to Inclusive and Accessible Visual Design.

Participant Testimonial:

"I really enjoyed/appreciated/got something out of the really specific and simple examples and exercises that really focused us on what we can do using the tools we have to easily consider and act on enhancing accessibility of our work on the day to day-—while also giving enough of a grounding in the rules and the theory behind the applied learning."
