The Agency Policy 101 course is intended to provide supervisors with an overview of the environmental factors affecting agency policy, types of agency policy, the agency policy cycle, and the processes associated with it. Participants learn what they need to know to write, analyze, implement, report, and evaluate agency policy.
The course begins with a required self-paced online portion (open for four weeks) that introduces the agency policy environment, the agency policy cycle, best practices in policy processes and procedures, and an introduction of the simulation group activity. A one-week residential session provides a review and analysis of participants’ agency policy processes and a comprehensive simulation where participants learn to apply principles on the skills needed to support agency policy. Both the online and residential portions must be completed to complete the course.
This course is designed for professionals, program managers, and supervisors wishing to improve their critical thinking and problem solving skills and gain insight into the agency policy process.
The course has online, asynchronous work to be completed prior to attending the classroom session.
