Human-centered design offers a creative and strategic framework to navigate complex problems and design effective solutions that meet peoples' real needs. This course introduces this innovative way of working while building design thinking, problem solving, and collaboration skills.
In this interactive, project-based course, you will learn to apply human-centered design methods and mindsets. We will introduce the theory behind the practice and relevant case studies through videos and discussions. You will then practice applying tools and techniques alongside a team of other participants through facilitated activities. The course is a fast-paced, hands-on learning experience focused on critical thinking and making.
We will cover topics including:
Whether you work in policy design, program management, or service delivery, this course provides you with an understanding of how to apply human-centered design within and across your organization.
You can expect to leave this course with a basic set of human-centered design tools and techniques and an understanding of how, when, and why to apply them in their own work.
After this course, many alumni pursue more in-depth design coaching focused on a particular area of interest or go on start human-centered design projects at their own agency.
We welcome any anyone and everyone—with or without previous design experience—to join us for this course.
Online courses use Zoom for audio and screensharing and Mural as a collaborative, online workspace. You do not need to create accounts or download any programs in order to access these technologies. More information and instructions will be shared prior to the course.
